+1 on the return-break statement. Any self-respecting compiler/IDE casts an error complaining about "dead code".

Yesterday the Google Cloud Platform team announced it will be working with +Cloudera to make Dataflow run on Spark, marking a next step in ensuring the portability of the Dataflow programming model. More details on the Google Cloud Platform blog.

We believe the Dataflow programming model, based on years of experience at Google, can provide maximum developer productivity and seamless portability. That's why in December we open sourced the Cloud Dataflow SDK, which offers a set of primitives for large-scale distributed computing, including rich semantics for stream processing. This allows the same program to execute either in stream or batch mode.

Today, we’re taking the next step in ensuring the portability of the Dataflow programming model by working with +Cloudera to make Dataflow run on Spark. See the details here: http://goo.gl/WTx5TS

Google Cloud Messaging rate limits come into effect soon!

As we shared back in November 2014 in the Google Cloud Messaging forum (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-gcm/kYnWzAS14O0), at the end of January 2015 we will be introducing a rate limit on messages that can be sent per second / per device. Applications must be prepared to receive and manage rate limit exceptions by this time.

We are introducing this limit to manage misbehaving apps that send unreasonable amounts of messages. And since the rate limit will be set high, most well behaving apps should not be affected. All apps should however be prepared to receive this error code, as a best practice.

More technical information can be found at this Stack Overflow post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/26790810/rate-limit-exceeded-error-when-using-google-cloud-messaging-api/26790811#26790811

+Andrew Fadeev My guess is that it's not necessarily spam (haven't heard anything about it) but probably a tool to teach devs how to use the service properly.  Or rather, punish them when they aren't :)

Save Time with Easy Maps API Integration from Java and Python

Are you a server side application developer that wants to use the Google Maps API services from either Java or Python? We have you covered.

We’ve launched a set of client side libraries for both languages that simplify and streamline integration to save you time in development. Check out the introduction video on what features they provide and which APIs they support right now. Bonus is that they’re open source too, so you can change them any way you like!

Check out a recent Web Components #DevByte from Developer Advocate +Eiji Kitamura on HTML Imports.

Web Components are a set of technologies that can entirely change the way you develop web apps. By making components scoped and reusable in a standardized way, your web development will step up to the next level.

HTML Imports enable developers to load HTML files into a document, aggregating multiple resources such as JavaScript, CSS and Web Fonts, solving dependencies. Learn more from video below or this article:
