We mapped the social media activity of over 10,000 public voices across Europe to see which platforms they use as their primary communication channels. The findings highlights our dependency on non-europeans companies.

We believe in the need for a global, trusted social media platform owned, run, and hosted in Europe. W is built on verified human users, transparency, privacy, and free speech.

W Identity

W verifies users through a separate app, W Identity. The decentralised W Identity app ensures full privacy. No personal identity data leaves your device unless you choose to share it

Your data is yours.

You can be verified as a human anonymously, or choose to share your real name. Your identity is yours. Always.

You identify yourself through W Identity, a separate app that scans your passport or national identity card and verifies you directly on your own device. You stay in control of what you share with other apps and services. Your ID data is stored only on your device unless you choose to share specific parts of it.

W gives you two options: appear with your full name or verified as a human anonymously. In both cases, you verify through W Identity, so W can confirm that you are a real, unique person. If you choose to stay anonymous, your full identity stays private, while verified attributes such as age verification and nationality help build trust and reduce fake accounts.

Access to your W Social account is controlled by a secure list of approved devices. If you lose one of these devices, it can be disconnected from your W Social account. Disconnecting a device will prevent it from accessing your account. You can then re-verify on a new device.

W is built on the open AT-Protocol, a global standard for interoperable social networking. This allows your posts and content to work across apps, rather than being locked into a single platform.

Anyone aged 18 or over can join. You need to verify your identity to start posting and commenting. Organisations and companies are also welcome with a dedicated organisational account.

Yes. You may browse all public content without verification. Posting, commenting, messaging, and interacting with other users requires identity verification.

ID data is used only during the identification process, after that the data will be deleted.

Your data belongs to you. W only collects what is necessary to operate the service. All data is processed within the EU under GDPR.

Your data is hosted by W on a Personal Data Server (PDS) in the EU, controlled by a European company.

Yes. Your posts on W are public by default, making conversations open and visible to the world. W is built on the open, global AT-Protocol.

Yes. W is a privately held, for-profit company incorporated in Stockholm. There is currently no advertising on the platform. Data is used only to operate the platform, ensure security, and prevent fraud. Future advertising will be introduced in full compliance with GDPR, DSA, and other EU regulations — meaning no undesired profiling based on your personal data.
